Print Window 4.0 Won't Show the Print Dialog?

I've identified an issue where Print Window 4.0 won't show the print dialog after the user clicks the "Print" button in the "Print Options" window. This is an issue that, unfortunately, did not come up in testing. However, for right now, there is an easy fix.

Check in the Preferences window in the "Behavior" pane and see if "Remember Page Setup Settings" is selected. If it is, try turning it off and see if that resolves the issue. If turning off this preference works for you, then that is what the issue is. (If it doesn't work, please contact me because something else may be going on.)

If this does resolve the problem, turn the preference back on (if you want it on) and then, after closing the Preferences window, select "Page Setup..." from the "File" menu. Set your default Page Setup settings and Print Window should work for you from there on out with that preference selected.

Unfortunately, to fix the problem permanently, it will require an update to Print Window 4. I'm already working on 4.0.1 to address a few minor issues, including this one.

As for the previously reported issue regarding an error in "cFolderList.Initialize", I'm still investigating that one. I still can't reproduce the problem and can't see any obvious place in the code for that error to occur. But, I'll keep on it until I figure it out. Again, if you are one of the unfortunate few to whom this is occurring, please let me know!

Print Window 4.0 Followup

Print Window 4.0 was officially announced this morning. For various reasons, I decided to start out with a soft release (unannounced) on Sunday, and held off sending out the press release until today.

So far, the release looks to have be very successful. I've already gotten some great feedback, mostly very positive, which of course makes me feel good.

I am looking into an issue that seems to have come up with a few people where Print Window will crash reporting an error in "cFolderListBox.Initialize". Fortunately, it appears that most people aren't experiencing this and Print Window is working just fine for them. However, for those few who are seeing this, it would really help if you could contact me. I can't reproduce the problem here, so I will need to rely on someone experiencing the problem who is willing to help me troubleshoot.

Otherwise, I continue to be very excited on how well Print Window 4 is turning out! Keep the feedback coming as I love to hear from my users!

Print Window 4.0 Now Available

At long last (and many might say too long), I'm excited to announce that Print Window 4 is now available for download. This release is, admittedly, a very long time coming, but I hope that it was worth the wait.

Print Window 4 is a major new version that adds many things that users have been asking for. The major new features for this version are:
  • The ability to save file listings as a tab-delimited text file or a Microsoft Excel file (Advanced Version only).
  • The ability to create thumbnail file listings. Folders full of images will now print mini-versions of the picture rather than just the icon (Advanced Version only).
  • A Finder contextual menu plugin is now included. This allows you to select the folder and initiate a file listing using the Finder's contextual menu.
  • Unlimited icon sizes. Icons can now be sized anywhere between 16x16 pixels to 128x128 pixels.
  • Additional field options allow users to include more information about files (such as version, date created, comments and label). (Advanced Version only).
  • A rebuilt print engine has been rewritten from the ground up. The new engine is faster and more flexible. No more blank pages at the end of CD or DVD Cover file listings. It is also now possible to select a range of pages to print, rather than only printing the entire listing.
  • And, of course, Print Window is finally a Universal Binary.
Print Window 4 includes lots of other little touches that make it even easier to use. Print Window can now remember Page Setup settings so the "Page Setup" dialog doesn't need to appear for every print job. The preferences window has been redesigned. Print Window can now automatically check to see if a new version is available. A built-in help is now available.

As before, Print Window Standard Edition is free to use. The Advanced Edition costs $20 USD for a single-user license. Upgrades for previous versions are $10 USD for a single-user license. And, of course, as promised, those who purchased a license to Print Window 3.1.5 Advanced from October 1st, 2007 until now will be soon receiving free upgrade licenses to Print Window 4.0 Advanced. Please allow a few days for me to get the complimentary upgrade licenses sent out.

Again, I'm very excited about this new release. I will be posting more soon on some of the challenges that I encountered making this new version, but I'm beside myself that it's finally available.
